DanceSport participation at the World Games on July 8-11th, was the seventh time DanceSport was represented at the World Games, according to the WDSF website. The event hosted in Birmingham AL, Standard, Latin & Breaking were popular with spectators, with some events amazingly sold out.
The event was covered by CBSSports Network, DanceSport remains one of the more visual sports.
Surprisingly, a very short report was published by WDSF three days later, but no details were given apart from the results. A little bird tells us that a win brings a country enough money to fund DanceSport for a year. But with only 20 couples competing in each style , this is not the most representative event for Standard & Latin.
It is rumoured that the organizers had to change representation rules, to allow mixed partnerships for the first time. Hello, welcome to the real world! People are mixed, there are not enough single nation couples any more.
There were also 16 Boy Breakers, as well as 16 Girl Breakers for the first time. This is to do with the upcoming Olympics and IOC contemporising. If they are 30 years late contemporizing Break Dance remains to be seen.
If you were at the Games, please don’t be shy to share what you’ve seen.
